Adam T. Dickey selected to serve on New Albany City Council

Caucus selection made following passing of former Councilman Bob Caesar

NEW ALBANY, May 13, 2022 – Floyd County Democratic Party Vice Chair Erica Lawrence has announced the election of Adam T. Dickey to the position of New Albany City Council, District #2. Dickey fills a vacancy created following the passing of Robert Caesar who died April 8th following a short illness.

“Bob Caesar was a champion for New Albany and its citizens, and our thoughts remain with his family,” stated Party Vice Chair Erica Lawrence. “While we will miss Bob and his leadership, we are grateful to Adam Dickey for offering his service on the City Council and know he will work hard for the citizens of the Second District.”

Under Indiana law, the political party of the deceased officeholder is responsible for filling the vacancy. Precinct Committee members from the Second City Council District caucused Thursday evening to make the selection.

“It was my privilege to work with Bob Caesar in several capacities,” stated Dickey. “In thinking of his legacy and the opportunities that lie ahead for our city, I feel motivated by a call to service and want to use my skills and talents to help our community thrive.”

Dickey is no stranger to public service having held several public positions throughout his career, including the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office, the City of New Albany and as a Congressional aide to former Ninth District Congressman Baron Hill. He currently serves on the New Albany Redevelopment Commission, the New Albany Tree Board, and is the Board Chair of the River Hills Economic Development District and Regional Planning Commission. Dickey was officially sworn-in to the office earlier today by Floyd County Superior Court III Judge Maria Granger. He will serve for the remainder of the four-year term set to expire on December 31, 2023.

“I appreciate I have big shoes to fill and look forward to this new opportunity,” Dickey added. “I want the constituents of the Second District to know I am committed to working hard for them and will always be ready to listen and reflect their concerns.”

“I think Adam will bring a renewed spirit to the City Council,” added Erica Lawrence. “He offers the right experience to help move our community forward to a better future.”
